It is no secret that healthy eating is a key part of being fit. And healthy eating is not to be confused with a low calorie diet. A couple of years ago I went through what I called "death by 100 calorie snack packs". O.K....yes eating ONE pack of an unhealthy snack that has 100 calories is better than eating a larger serving BUT it doesn't mean the foood or snack is healthy. I was guilty in the past of focusing more on low calorie foods and losing weight than to nutrition. My friend Jackie shared this app with me to help determine which foods are the most nutritious. It is called FOODUCATE and I am obsessed with it so I had so share.
FOODUCATE has several cool features but my favorite is the ability to use your smart phone to scan bar codes of items and see an overall nutrition rating. I was suprised that some foods that I thought were nutritious got low ratings. The rating takes into account many factors including how processed the product is, sodium, sugar, artificial colors, etc. I had a blast with the app in Trader Joe's tonight. If you know of similar apps or other resources that can help in this area feel free to share.
